Attending the 2022 BDF

Join us at the 13th Annual Brighton Dance Festival, happening one-day-only on August 20, 2022!

Here is some helpful information for all new and returning attendees.

What is BDF?

A non-competitive environment to nurture your artistic voice, challenge your technical training and connect with a community of dancers. We offer intensive classes for experienced dancers ages 10 through adult, plus performance opportunities for students and professionals.

Who can register for festival classes?

Experienced dancers ages 10 through adult (meaning you have at least 4 years prior dance training).

Are there any classes for Dance Teachers or Studio Owners?

Yes! We facilitate the Dance Teacher Development Day, which includes sessions in dancer wellness, classroom management, teaching young dancers, training your assistants, injury prevention, avoiding dancer abuse, issues & trends in the dance world, and more! You can sign up to attend here. (Space is limited, early registration encouraged)

Can parents, family or friends attend?

Yes! All day we will have activities for non-dancers as well! Enjoy the summer heat and shop our outdoor vendors, enjoy some live music and lawn games, learn about college dance programs at our college fair booths, and watch some dance!

Do students get to perform?

Since transitioning to a one-day event, we no longer offer our typical student showcase performance. However, we have added a Student Choreography Showcase for any dancers ages 12+ who would like to submit an original piece of choreography to perform for a panel of our BDF Faculty. You may submit solo, duet or group works in any genre. Click here to learn more.

Are there any other performances?

Yes! Our day will wrap up with the BDF Professional Showcase at 6:30pm. This is an intimate, in-studio performance featuring several professional dance companies, choreographers and performers from throughout Metro-Detroit and beyond. Free and open to all! (Space is limited)
